Summer Saturdays at the Corcoran

corcoran_fullsizeNo longer is the Smithsonian the only source of art free-of-charge. Thanks to a grant, the Corcoran is offering free admission on Saturdays through August 29.

You can also check out some great events while you’re around. And tomorrow will be the second to last day to check out the Maya Lin exhibit, Systematic Landscapes. Lin rose to prominence after her design for the Vietnam Memorial was chosen for D.C. The exhibit features sculputral reproductions of landscapes found in nature, including a landmass in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Saturday, July 11:

Nature Prints
Family Workshop
10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Uncover nature’s playful patterns and silly shapes hiding in art hanging on the wall, rising up from the floor, and even dangling across the ceiling. Following the tour, transfer your own designs onto paper in our printmaking studio. This program has a materials fee of $8 for members and $12 for non-members.

Sketching
11a.m.- 2 p.m.
Visitors are invited to draw from a model in our atrium. 

Docent Tour of Gallery Highlights
12 p.m.
Enjoy a tour of our special exhibitions and permanent collection highlights, led by one of our knowledgeable docents.

“Making Sense of Form, Content, and Title in a Work of Art” Gallery Talk
3 p.m.
The Relationship between Form, Content, and Title when Making Sense of and Appreciating a Work of Art. Led by Kirk Pillow, Dean, Corcoran College of Art + Design.
