The National Art Gallery, the Freer Gallery of Art and the House of France DC are giving Washingtonians a taste of Le Festival des Trois Continents. This celebrated and groundbreaking festival held annually in Nantes, France has introduced audiences to lesser known movie directors from Asia, Africa and South America. The festival’s mission is to expose audiences to movies that fall outside of the mainstream. You can avoid the lackluster blockbusters (yes, I am talking to you Transfomers 2) and discover something perhaps more intriguing–or, at least, extraordinary. And best of all, movie screenings are free!
Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 30), the French Embassy will be showing two movies by Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty: Le Franc and The Little Girl Who Sold the Sun. From the Embassy of France: “Through everyday human dramas, Mambety examines political and economic topics of Africa and projects a vital image of his native continent.”
